1994 Group Launches Student Experience Policy Statement

Yesterday, the 1994 Group launched its Student Experience Policy Statement at a national conference on 'Enhancing the Student Experience', addressed by John Denham, Secretary of State at the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.

The 1994 Group's Policy Statement provides a snapshot of the complex spectrum of student experiences and expectations in 2007, articulates how the 1994 Group sees itself in this context, and identifies a set of key challenges for universities, policy-makers and student-facing groups to meet if UK HE is to continue to be one of the leading higher education providers in the world.

Through its policy statement the 1994 Group seeks to transform the relationship between universities and their students into a positive partnership, to promote and respond to the student voice, and to recognise the importance of skills gained through extra-curricular activity that sit alongside students' academic achievements.

The 1994 Group is committed to addressing the challenges set out in the Statement, and will be taking forward projects and partnerships over the coming period. A key upcoming stage of this ongoing work will be the publication of the 1994 Group and DSCF research report in January 2008, which examines the new 14-19 education reforms in the context of research-intensive higher education institutions.
